About Us
Our Mission is to provide expert guidance and services to home owners who are interested in lowering their utility bills, improving their home’s comfort and reducing their personal environmental impact. Through our audit and improvement process we make homes more efficient, comfortable throughout the year and a healthier place to live.
We are different from your average contractor in that we are not trying to sell you windows, siding, insulation, air conditioning or a furnace. We are interested in finding a solution for your home based on your concerns and our audit findings. We look at the house as a whole system with interdependent parts and we understand the many factors that affect its comfort, health and efficiency. In the end we may find that the answer is a simple and cost-effective solution, or we may find a major safety and health issue that would be compounded by the work that another contractor wants to do. We really listen to the concerns of the homeowner and use building science to find the solution that is the most cost effective to resolve those concerns.
We use diagnostic testing equipment to determine the current efficiency of your house and help determine where the problems are so that we can make the correct recommendations to improve your house. We use a blower door to measure how leaky the house is, an infrared camera to identify insulation deficiencies in the walls, and a duct blaster to find leakage in the HVAC duct work. These tools along with others are integral in helping us determine how the house is functioning. As we make improvements, we can test our progress to make sure that we are achieving the desired results.
Home Performance Solutions is owned and operated by Brian Young.
Brian worked for over twenty years as a manufacturing engineer in the Athens area. He was involved in the building of apartments, townhomes and houses in the Athens area and is now able to combine his engineering background with his understanding of building construction. Brian wants to help homeowners understand how their houses work as a system and how to make cost effective improvements to their homes so they can use less energy and be more comfortable.
Brian is a Certified Building Performance Analyst with the Building Performance Institute (BPI)
