Lighting a Home
The US Government is going to phase out incandescent light bulbs starting in 2012 and you probably won't be able to find one by 2014. If you have a something that uses the heat from an incandescent bulb to stay dry then you need to stock up and start thinking of an alternative solution.
Compact Fluorescent's (CFL's) have come a long way since they came out and are much more affordable than they were originally. Fluorescent lights do not like to be turned on and off frequently and this is why they don't seem to last as long as they should.
Halogen bulbs will be around a little longer than incandescent but in the future will probably be limited to applications other than home use. They burn hotter than incandescent and therefore can be smaller and achieve the same lumens so they are a little more efficient than incandescent bulbs.
LED bulbs are the way of the future. We are starting to see them on the shelves at stores now but the cost is still high, much like CFL's were when they first came out. They do not contain mercury like CFL's, they turn on instantly and are not affected by cycling on and off like CFL's are and they are more efficient than CFL's. They can also last 25 years or more so the higher cost today can be justified in some applications now and as the cost comes down were all going to be using them.
